Pin Site Care - Video

This is the final part of on my mini series about pin site care. The first post was about the supplies I use and the second was a brief run through of how I actually take care of my pin sites. The links to those posts can be found above. Below you will find a video showing exactly how I take care of my pin sites. On thing that the video doesn't show (and that the other pin site posts have not mentioned) is how I clean the rest of my fixator. Cleaning my fixator is really simple - I just run alchol swabs all over it. I do this on a much less regular basis.

Just a disclaimer here - This is how I do my pin site care based the instructions given to me by my surgeon. If you have a fixator and want to try different things regarding your pin site care, always run it by your doctor/surgeon/nurse first. What is appropriate for one individual might not be for another. It is really important to keep that in mind. So if you watch this and think "hmm, I would like to try that", ask a medical professional about it first.

Also, I get the different types of gauze and sponges confused a lot in the video (blame it on the morphine!).
I use non-sterile gauze to collect the saline solution. This gauze never touches my pins.
I dry the pin sites with sterile gauze sponges.
I use sterile non-woven sponges for the actual dressing on my leg.

Oh, and the video is quite long, so if you don't want to watch the whole thing, please don't feel obligated to =)
